Why is Research Important?<\/h2>\n

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a leading type of birth defect \u2013 and an increasing number of these children are living into adulthood as a result of advances in surgical interventions. However, c<\/span>hildren with CHD are predisposed to developing modifiable risk factors later in life such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. <\/span>Cardiac rehabilitation programs for adults are well established non-pharmacological treatments for individuals with various cardiac conditions. Yet, t<\/span>here is little research to show the effectiveness and feasibility of a pediatric physical activity and mental wellness program.<\/span><\/p>\n

The research team of the Mending Little Hearts Fund is made up of doctors and researchers from the College of Kinesiology, College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and the Department of Psychology at the University of Regina. The research team contributes to and helps facilitate programming at CHAMPS Camp, in addition to numerous research initiatives outside of camp involving children, youth, and adults with CHD.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project Title: Assessing the Usability and Acceptability of iCHD-PWR: An e-Health Mental Health Prevention Program for Children with Siblings Diagnosed with Congential Heart Disease<\/strong><\/p>\n

The primary purpose of the study is to obtain feedback on the acceptability, usability, strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for the usability of a mental health prevention program for children and adolescents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This program is called the Internet-Delivered Congenital Heart Disease Mental Health Prevention Wellness Resource Program (iCHD-PWR).<\/p>\n

I am coordinating a research project on the usability of a mental health prevention program developed for children and adolescents who have a sibling with congenital heart disease (CHD), called Internet-Delivered Congenital Heart Disease Mental Health Prevention Wellness Resource Program (iCHD-PWR). I am currently undergoing recruitment. We are seeking to recruit children who have a sibling with CHD, but are healthy themselves. This project has been approved by the Research Ethics Board (REB) at the University of Regina on August 18th, 2025 (see certificate attached). All participants (parent\/child dyad) will be compensated $50 CAD for their participation.<\/span><\/p>\n
